We've tasted various appetizers and they are all quite good, but the calamari with the sweet and spicy pepper sauce is the bomb so why get anything else? The menu is supplemented by daily specials - my spouse had the prime rib, sizeable portion and cooked to order, and I thoroughly enjoyed the pecan-crusted trout over cauliflower mash. In addition, dirty dishes are promptly cleared (a marker of overall service level and my pet peeve when neglected). They must attend Active Listening courses in training or something. I don't know how Coastal Flats manages to hire servers that are so upbeat and friendly, but I've met at least 10 of them by now, and they all share the quality of cheerful attentiveness. Although the space is large and often fairly crowded, it never reaches a noise level that impedes conversation. The atmosphere is similar to Clyde's - a pleasant, contented bounciness emanating from both couples and groups. feeling included in the group experience - and plenty of tables. There's a sizable bar and a mixture of comfortable booths - just enough privacy vs. However, the décor is an attractive mix of contemporary (exposed pipes, colored glass hanging lanterns) and classical (bronze pineapple sconces). The space is large, which sort of fools you into thinking that you might be entering a 'mass-food' type environment. You know how local restaurants have to work hard to earn the same respect from you that you would grant in other locales? I've eaten here 5 times, with spouse and with colleagues, and it has finally snuck up on me that that this is a REALLY GOOD restaurant. We attended Coastal Flats for an early New Year's Eve dinner, and the experience was so enjoyable that I was finally moved to write about the restaurant.
